Define FRP wrapping

FRP wraps may be assigned to columns. The user may select the FRP sheet from a list of the most commonly used products found in the market, or alternatively introduce user-defined values.

In order to insert an FRP sheet from the list users should:

  • select the company that produces the FRP;
  • select the name of the FRP sheet;
  • specify the number of applied layers;
  • define whether the dry or the laminate FRP properties are to be used in the calculations;
  • assign the radius of rounding of the corners R for the rectangular cross sections (a critical parameter in the application of FRP wraps).

In case of User-defined FRP sheet the properties that should be defined are:

  • the FRP sheet properties: the thickness, the tensile strength, the modulus of elasticity and the elongation at failure;
  • the number of applied layers;
  • whether the defined properties that will be used in the calculations are the dry or the laminate FRP properties;
  • the radius of rounding of the corners R for the rectangular cross sections (a critical parameter in the application of FRP wraps);
  • the type of the FRP sheet (Carbon, Aramid, Glass, Basalt or Steel fibres);
  • the number of direction(s) and the orientation of the fibres.

Finally, FRP systems may be proposed to Seismosoft through the “Propose FRP system to Seismosoft” button, in order to be included in newer releases of the program. Herein, the user is asked to assign the name of the FRP system, the link where information about the product may be found and the technical properties of the FRP sheet.
